We’re pleased to be recognized as an Apple Distinguished School for 2025-2028 for inspiring, imagining, and impacting teaching and learning, school-wide in grades K-2 through continuous innovation.
Inspire
Hazardville Memorial School develops the whole child, laying the foundation for future academic, social, and personal success. We prepare students for careers that don't yet exist by equipping them with essential skills. Our teachers and leadership team foster a community where every child is valued and respected, celebrating kindness, safety, wise choices, and respect. As many children’s first school experience, we teach children to love learning and believe that academic success follows from this passion. Technology is integrated into our practices, supporting individualized and creative learning activities. We help students become proficient with technology, using it to tell their stories.
Imagine
Hazardville Memorial School empowers students to take risks, collaborate, and share ideas. Student choice is central, offering various ways to demonstrate learning. Collaboration on projects and assignments fosters shared learning. Technology supports participation in initiatives like PAWS Time, where teachers build relationships with every child. Students use technology to share their learning, building confidence and documenting their progress across classrooms and grade levels. This approach nurtures creativity and a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring that both students and staff are inspired to imagine new possibilities and solutions. Through agency and collaboration, we create a dynamic learning environment.
Impact
Hazardville Memorial School uses technology to support individualized learning, tracks progress, and provides activities at each student's level. Online assessments inform instruction, allowing tailored activities which supports each student’s learning profile. With a growing multi-language learner population, technology facilitates communication between students and teachers, fostering relationships and belonging, and ensuring every child can communicate and access curriculum. Technology also enhances home-school communication through the Parent Square app, sending messages in families' preferred languages. This approach ensures meaningful participation, promoting accessibility, diversity, inclusion, and equity within our school community, and allowing families to be more active participants in their child’s education.
